Hideo Kojima, the creator of Death Stranding, has unexpectedly announced the release of the Director’s Cut of his creation on the Xbox Series.

The game is currently available at a 50% discount on these new platforms—a deal lasting for two weeks, bringing the price down to $20. The Xbox Series version is published by 505 Games, the same company that handled the PC release.

Additionally, the rights to the series have been transferred from Sony to Kojima Productions.

In Death Stranding, players take on the role of Sam Bridges (played by Norman Reedus), who must "reconnect" a post-apocalyptic version of the United States. During his journey, Sam delivers various messages and packages while also fighting mysterious creatures with the help of BB, a baby contained in a special pod.

The game has often been nicknamed a "courier simulator" by fans, but it received widespread praise for its melancholic atmosphere, music, unique gameplay mechanics, and overall originality.

Death Stranding originally launched on PS4 in 2019, reached PC in 2020, and this year, Kojima’s creation also made it to iOS and macOS.

Currently in development is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which is expected to release on PS5 in 2025. Based on recent trends, it’s likely that the game will later arrive on other platforms as well.
