Journalist Tom Henderson shared details about the next Battlefield installment, whose initial concept art recently appeared online. The information was provided by sources close to the development process.

The game will be set between 2027 and 2030. The story campaign will revolve around a conflict between a large private military force and NATO, with players visiting various regions, including the United States and Gibraltar.

Developers plan to include 45 different weapons at launch, which is double the number Battlefield 2042 had at release. EA also aims to create around 10 maps for the multiplayer mode.

The destruction system will see significant changes compared to Battlefield 2042. Several of Henderson's sources mentioned that destruction will depend on the caliber of ammunition, similar to the system in Rainbow Six Siege.

As for the title, EA has not yet decided on a final name. Developers are carefully considering the options and conducting extensive surveys. Two potential names are simply Battlefield or Battlefield 6. A free-to-play battle royale mode is being developed by Ripple Effect Studios, with a map set in a tropical region of the U.S.

Regarding the large-scale testing program previously mentioned by EA, the company may introduce a Community Test Environment (CTE), which has been successful in the development of Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 4, according to Henderson. There is currently no release date for the next Battlefield, but active production began in early 2024.
